For musicians

We work with emerging musicians at various stages in their musical journeys, to give them experience and specialist training in understanding and playing contemporary classical music with members of the London Sinfonietta.

We deliver this work in partnership with Higher Education Institutions. During our 2023-24 season we will work with the Royal Academy of Music and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.

Join us for Refracted Sound where students from the Royal Academy of Music's Manson Ensemble will play side-by-side with London Sinfonietta players.

Following their involvement in our Academy Pathways and Junior Academy programmes, this year will see the launch of a new partnership with Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music. Working throughout the age range of the Conservatoire, London Sinfonietta will work with students to explore, rehearse and perform new music.

London Sinfonietta Academy

From 2009 - 2023, there were 14 editions of the London Sinfonietta Academy, training 272 instrumentalists and 40 conductors. The programme focused solely on the expert playing of contemporary repertoire and many of the participants became players with the London Sinfonietta and members of other major UK and international ensembles, as well as being inspired to set up their own contemporary music chamber groups and ensembles.

Since 2021 the London Sinfonietta has been reviewing this area of work, including consulting with independent consultant, London Sinfonietta Players and Council and running an Academy Pathways year in partnership with seven higher education institutions. As of the 2024-25 season, the London Sinfonietta Academy will no longer be running. Our work in this area will continue in partnership with higher education institutions, seeking to provide something which is complementary and additional to their current contemporary music offer.
