Through the Lens: Schoenberg: Reshaping Tradition

Our 2024-25 season started with an unforgettable reshaping of tradition! As we continued our acclaimed series of composer portraits celebrating the 150th year of Arnold Schoenberg.

The day was an exploration of Schoenberg's twelve-tone system, his love of games, his honesty and his students.

London Sinfonietta's wonderful tribute concert reminded us that though Schoenberg's music can be madly excessive and thorny, it can also be overwhelmingly moving and even loveable. " Ivan Hewett - The Telegraph

The evening began with a pre-concert discussion led by Musicologist Jonathan Cross, Professor of Music Julie Brown and Conductor Jonathan Berman gave the audience insights and more knowledge on the work of Schoenberg and how he has influenced 21st-century pop-culture in ways we might not have thought about before.

The audience then took their seats and were led on a journey through Schoenberg with reciter/baritone Richard Burkhard.
