Our 2023-2024 season started with a bang, celebrating the life of provocatively distinctive composer György Ligeti in his centenary year.
The day was an exploration of Ligeti's catalouge of music and featured audience participation and 100 metronomes as the London Sinfonietta took on Poème Symphonique.
The success of the London Sinfonietta's celebratory day was how many of these different sides of Ligeti it managed to showcase in a short time. " The Financial Times
Among the Sinfonietta musicians, it was fun to see Enno Senft’s double bass and Tim Gill’s cello kept so busy, especially after the quirkily wispy Cello Concerto. " Geoff Brown, The Times
...it was a day that underlined the composer’s extraordinary music and unique legacy... " Tim Ashley, The Guardian
The Sinfonietta’s main evening concert was cleverly programmed to reveal the breadth of Ligeti’s world, and also its depth. " Ivan Hewett, The Telegraph
Kaziboni made the ensemble sound more like electric sine waves than acoustic instruments, a fitting tribute to Ligeti’s vision. " Marat Ingeldeev, Bachtrack
London’s live music is second to none- from grime to indie to classical- and everything in between ! An unforgettable experience seeing @Ldn_Sinfonietta marking #Ligeti100 at @southbankcentre 🎶 pic.twitter.com/xcMrKjXl0L
