On Saturday 8 October we kicked off our 22/23 Season with Xenakis: Architect of Sound. On the centenary of his birth, this concert formed part of the Southbank Centre's Xenakis 100 Day, featuring free talks and performances all day. The London Sinfonietta performed four of Xenakis's great works, opening with O-mega a piece named after the last letter of the Greek alphabet and the last piece Xenakis ever wrote. Palimpset followed, which similarly centered around a solo percussionist, and then Échange, which featured a brilliant brass clarinet solo performed by Mark van de Wiel. The concert closed with Thalleïn, the London Sinfonietta's first commission from Xenakis.
