Composition Challenges invites young people, teachers and schools to create new music for the London Sinfonietta inspired by the works and musical ideas of living composers.
Suitable for KS2/3 students, each challenge will explore the work and approach of a different composer, support curriculum learning and help young people to engage with creative composition. Available online, the Composition Challenges are designed to be easy to use, flexible and open to everyone, from complete beginner composers to those with more experience.
Each Composition Challenge will be introduced with a short film and supported by a teacher pack to guide you through a variety of activities to get your class composing. We can also supplement your in-school work with specially tailored workshops (in person or online) with London Sinfonietta musicians and composers to offer feedback to your students and help them develop their work. We then invite schools to submit their compositions for us to share and perform.
A series of Composition Challenges will be released during the 20/21 season, culminating in selected works being performed in our Live Stream Sound Out Schools Concert on Mon 22 March 2021. To register your interest in this concert, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
