Sinfonietta Shorts: Edmund Finnis and Emma-Ruth Richards 15th April 2020
17 Apr 2020
The London Sinfonietta invites you to write us a new piece of music. Inspired by the Postal Pieces of composer James Tenney, the only condition is that it should fit on the back of a postcard. No need to use traditional notation (although you can if you want to), there is the chance to create a musical ‘score’ using staves and notes, colours, shapes, lines, words, instructions, collage or any combination of these. Open to everyone (and especially those under 18 years old) – the more imaginative your response, the better!
Peviously composers Samantha Fernando and Deborah Pritchard who have created their own visual scores spoke to us about their process and works, and we heard these new pieces premiered by London Sinfonietta musicians. Watch the video about the creative process, or watch an earlier showcase to get some creative inspiration!
Then it’s over to you to get creative. Submit your piece to us by Wednesday 8 May. Selected works will be performed in a special online concert on Friday 15 May at 1pm.
Your piece should be:
- A6 (postcard size) or A5 (half the size of an A4 sheet of paper)
- you can use whatever materials you like -the more imaginative the better!
- please submit a photo of your piece to info@londonsinfonietta.org.uk, or send it to us on twitter, Instagram or Facebook. If you want to share it publicly, make sure to tag us in it @Ldn_sinfonietta
