Untold Stories: A Piece of the Puzzle
10 Oct 2022
The latest film in London Sinfonietta's new Untold Stories series, ANIL SOOD by Alys Scott-Hawkins, tells the story of Southampton local Anil Sood. Anil is well-known in Southampton for running a dance music record shop and drum'n'bass events in the 1990s and 2000s. Through an interview Anil tells the stories of highs and lows; most recently having to close his latest business during the pandemic. The film brings together Benjamin Oliver's piece A-Listers (featuring Clíodna Shanahan on piano), archive material, interview footage and animation to interpret Anil's story.
About Untold Stories
The London Sinfonietta launched Untold Stories (Community Commissions) in September 2020 in response to the global pandemic. A series of portrait pieces of members of the public and community groups and organisations, they celebrate the importance of connecting with those around us. We commissioned and recorded four pieces in London during autumn 2020, written by Trish Clowes, Cassie Kinoshi, Zoë Martlew and Yshani Perinpanayagam and inspired by a foodbank warehouse manager, a refugee support worker, a charity working with the elderly, and a primary school. We have ventured out of London for the next round of commissioning, the first of which has resulted in this event in Southampton, and which will be followed by an event in Warwick.
