Story Garden, British Library
Experience a unique outdoor performance at the intersection of music and horticulture, in a hidden oasis at the heart of Kings Cross.
Ladies in Bloomers is inspired by Fiona Davison's book An Almost Impossible Thing, and is a powerful tribute to resilience, history and nature. Performed by the London Sinfonietta with four singers and on-stage community gardeners, the 'hortimusical' drama brings to life the story of pioneering women of the early 20th century, blending real and imagined letters and archival materials of the era.
Stemming from Davison discovering Olive Harrison’s letters to the Royal Horticultural Society, a gardener who was denied scholarship on ‘account of being female’, Davison’s book sheds light on these early female professional gardeners through the radical lives and letters of Harrison and five others.
The Story Garden is an outdoor community space opened by The British Library in partnership with Global Generation.
Programme includes:
Omri Kochavi Ladies in Bloomers - World Premiere & LS Commission
