Explore a compelling phenomenon at the intersection of music and horticulture, in a hidden oasis at the heart of Kings Cross.
Through the prism of Fiona Davison's eponymous book An Almost Impossible Thing, Ladies in Bloomers brings to life the story of pioneering women gardeners, with an ensemble of London Sinfonietta musicians, singers and on-stage gardeners.
Stemming from Davison discovering Olive Harrison’s letters to the royal horticultural society, a gardener who was denied scholarship on ‘account of being female’, Davison’s book sheds light on these early female professional gardeners through the radical lives and letters of Harrison and five others.
The Story Garden is a community space opened by The British Library, in partnership with Global Generation.
Programme includes:
Omri Kochavi Ladies in Bloomers - World Premiere & LS Commission
