The Piece
Fall and then Rise on a Soft Winter's Morning is a multi-sensory experience. The performance is founded on BSL-inspired poetry accompanied by spoken reading of the text and supported with live music.
The Space
This takes place in Colour Factory, a nightclub which aims for inclusivity and diversity.
The installation and performance space allows for a maximum of 150 audience members - 60 can be seated and 90 can stand.
Seating options comprise vibrating platforms programmed to transmit sound wave vibrations, beanbags and benches. There is also plenty of wheelchair space.
There is one raised platform where 5 musicians and a conductor will be located along side one dancer (Chisato Minamimura).
There are large balloons rigged from the roof on to which will be projected pre-recorded film and creative captions.
Participation
There is no audience participation. Audience members are encouraged to move around the space in the intervals, interact with the space, to change your position in the space to experience the work from different angles; you might be invited to hug a balloon and drink some tea.
Access Information
This is a relaxed performance, this means you can move or make noise if you need to and you will be able to go in and out of the performance space. There are three parts to the music with roughly ten minutes break in between where audience members are welcome to purchase drinks from the bar. We will also give out small tasters of tea and popcorn.
There is step free access to the performance space. Late comers will admitted. There will not be any flashing or moving lights. On arrival there will be a light bag search by Colour Factory's Security Team. Stewards fluent in BSL to support guests on arrival.
The closest tube station to the venue is Hackney Wick. There is a lift within the station.
The venue has no parking. There is street parking available around the venue, and there is private parking nearby which you can pay for.
There is an alleyway opposite the exit of the tube station which you travel down to reach the venue. The walk is about one to two minutes.
Once you enter the main doors, you will be in the auditorium. There is a ticket desk and a bar to your right. The stage is on your left. There will be seating in this area.
Content notes
The piece includes music, visuals and an installation inspired by ideas of falling. There are no literal depictions of the subject matter detailed below.
The first piece of music is about falling in love.
The second is inspired by dreams of teeth falling out, transformation and sleep paralysis.
The third is a fantasy of spirits meeting in a forest, dancing and calling a blizzard. In between each section of live music there is pre-recorded dreamy-sounding music.
