Formed in 2021 by Iranian composer and multi-instrumentalist, Ashkan Layegh, Phemo Quartet aims to broaden the spectrum of live-action interplay through a highly-detailed score. The band includes Ashkan Layegh (composer, pianist), Sam Norris (alto saxophone), Gonçalo Maia Caetano (bass guitar) and Harry Ling (drums). Phemo premiered their debut project Anti-Revelation (2022)— an hour-long 5-movement cycle— at the Vortex Jazz Club. They also shared the stage at the Kings Place with ECM recording artist, Nik Bärtsch.
Phemo will perform alongside London Sinfonietta for the premiere of Ephemerality and Recurrence— Layegh’s recent multi-media project commissioned by London Sinfonietta— as part of 2025 EFG Jazz Festival.
