A CATALAN CELEBRATION
The legacy of Roberto Gerhard
Southbank Centre's Queen Elizabeth Hall, London
London Sinfonietta has a longstanding relationship with the music of Catalonia and its members are dedicated interpreters of Roberto Gerhard, a pioneer who connected complex musical structure with traditional Spanish folklore.
In this concert, London Sinfonietta brings his strikingly personal piece Leo to life, while also showcasing newer work from Joan Magrané Figuera and Raquel García-Tomás – two of Catalonia’s modern generation of composers. Lisa Illean’s Januaries rounds off a programme of unpredictable, and often introspective, music.
