The music and life of Claude Vivier

A celebration of the music and influence of Canadian composer Claude Vivier. The event features his masterwork, Lonely Child, or as he refers to as his 'long song of solitude'.
Nicole Lizée’s new piece for the London Sinfonietta The Seeds of Solitude draws inspiration from Vivier’s work. The piece sees live musicians perform alongside a series of three short films of speculative fiction in which two isolated characters find themselves having to deal with unusual events. The series references themes of paranoia, voyeurism, nostalgia, insomnia, hypnotic states, and communicating with the dead, referring to the suggestion that Claude Vivier was seeking to communicate with his deceased mother via his music.
The concert involves the combined forces of the London Sinfonietta sitting side-by-side with the next generation of exciting musicians to emerge from the Royal Academy of Music and features the extraordinary talents of conductor Ilan Volkov and soprano Claire Booth.
