Through the Lens: Untold Stories Southampton - Anil Sood

On Friday 22 July we travelled to The Stage Door in Southampton for a unique event encompassing live performances of contemporary music, a film screening, plus a DJ set of liquid drum n bass.

The latest in our Untold Stories/Community Commissions series, the evening celebrated Anil Sood, a Southampton local well-known for running a dance music record shop and drum'n'bass events in the 1990s and 2000s. In Alys Scott-Hawkins' film, Anil tells the stories of highs and lows; most recently having to close his latest business during the pandemic. The film brings together the new piece A-Listers by Benjamin Oliver, archive material, interview footage and animation to interpret Anil's story.

Alongside this, Clíodna Shanahan and Huw Davies played music by Julia Wolfe, Benjamin Oliver and Steve Reich, and Anil finished the evening with a DJ set.

Check out some photos and reactions from the night below!
