Through the Lens: In C

Tuesday 29 and Wednesday 30 April saw the London Sinfonietta collaborate with world-renowned choreographers Sasha Waltz & Guests to bring Terry Riley's In C to life on the Queen Elizabeth Hall stage.

Whilst the piece is written for an unspecified number of players, the London Sinfonietta musicians were 12 on stage, embracing their inner dancer they started their performance with the Sasha Waltz company moving intentionally around the stage barefoot and under the cover of darkness silhouetted by a red back drop before taking their seats to begin playing.

This was a persuasive fusion of music and movement, each standing on its own, each feeding off the other in perfect symbiosis. " Pete Woodhead, The Evening Standard
In C is a tough piece to perform and yet a stunning one to watch, especially against the colours of the changing backdrop. The rules of the game may be difficult to decipher, but it sounds – and looks – beautiful. " Richard Maguire, The Reviewers Hub
