London Sinfonietta declares a climate emergency

The London Sinfonietta has joined over 1,000 music organisations in signing a declaration for urgent action on climate change, as part of Music Declares Emergency's Turn Up The Volume campaign. As an organisation that engages with composers, artists and the ideas and concerns of contemporary society, the London Sinfonietta acknowledges its responsibility and the moral imperative to respond to this global emergency.

In the week of Earth Day 2021, the UK Music industry reinforces its commitment to action on the climate emergency with a series of announcements and artist reach outs. Bringing together the creators, the businesses and the individuals that drive UK music under the Music Declares Emergency banner ‘No Music On A Dead Planet – Turn Up The Volume’, the week highlights the amazing work on sustainability already taking place across UK music, with a particular focus on classical music on Sunday 25 April.

London Sinfonietta has recorded an excerpt of Jasmin Kent Rodgman's Black Tortoise to commemorate the day, and will work over the coming seasons to find more sustainable ways of operating, promote environmental awareness, and highlight the need for environmental responsibility.

A full statement on the ensemble's commitment to environmental responsibility can be found here.
