Update 2/4/21:
We are pleased to announce that we have been awarded a further £40,424 from the government’s Culture Recovery Fund to support our work and allow us to continue making new music.
This funding will go towards making our rehearsals and performances safe as we start to come back to in-person performances, and developing our digital content further. The previous funding allocated to us from the Cultural Recovery Fund has allowed us to take our Sound Out schools programme online, reaching over 12,000 children across the country.
Chief Executive & Artistic Director Andrew Burke said “We are grateful to DCMS and the Arts Council of England for providing and distributing the funding – which is supporting cinemas, theatres, music venues, museums, galleries and heritage across the UK. Our sectors provide jobs as well as bringing joy, meaning, insight and inspiration to many. As importantly, the arts function as a safe channel for thought and protest and a catalyst for emotional healing and reconciliation.
Our sector always needs to find a way to talk confidently and coherently about the impact it has, and make its case for why the arts are an indispensable part of society. So we are #HereForCulture - and this funding will ensure the London Sinfonietta will not falter or fail across the coming months. We have time now to make plans and raise other funds that we hope will secure our long-term future too.”
Here for Culture is a movement that unites the public, government and cultural organisations in support of our fantastic cinemas, theatres, music venues, museums, galleries and heritage.

The government is #HereForCulture with an unprecedented amount of funding coming through on top of the furlough scheme, bounce-back loans and emergency grants. The public has been #HereForCulture as organisations have innovated online and outdoors.
The London Sinfonietta is pleased to announce that it has been awarded £80,990 from the Culture Recovery Fund. This funding underpins our New Time / New Music season until the end of March 2021 – and will be vital to keeping our organisation stable across this time.
The funding will specifically support:
- additional costs to ensure safe working at rehearsals, performances and talent development programmes
- digital costs to capture and relay our performances to audiences
- developing content suitable to enable digital delivery of our schools programme
- underpinning staff costs to retain people with key skills
- purchasing equipment to support our digital ambitions and assist us with operating under Covid-19 safety guidelines
In our work this season we are seeking ever more to engage with individuals, schools and communities and inspire them with music – which we believe is even more powerful when making and hearing music made today. Whether at a very local level with our new Community Commissions programme, or with our Sound Out schools programme across the country, or in supporting young talented composers and players as they start their careers, we are seeking ways for our organisation to have impact on people’s lives. Our purpose has always been to inspire new audiences with what they hear us perform. And also to connect the extraordinary skills of the musicians who play for us and the composers who write for us with groups of people who can then explore their creativity with us. In doing so, we see people developing self-confidence, new motivation, skills and a powerful sense of place and community.
